Homework Widow

Well, turns out I'm already failing at this blog thing. I apologize for the lack of posts; I'm just not used to thinking about it! But I promise I'll do better so keep coming back!

Tonight, I am a homework widow. Some women complain about being football widows or golf widows but I don't think that will ever be a problem in our house since I'm just as into sports as Jordan. I will, however, be a homework widow ... for the next six years!! Of course, I fully support Jordan in his education and am very excited for him to go to optometry school after completing his undergraduate business degree. But "fully support" means that tonight, after making a chocolate cream pie as study food for him and a friend, I'm all alone! And did I mention that we canceled our cable last week?! Yeah, we did. Funny thing about that. We did it because we decided that with spring upon us and summer around the corner, we wanted to spend more time in the evenings and on Saturdays outside - taking walks, playing tennis, reading in the park - instead of turning into mush on the couch. But God has a sense of humor, and it has rained or snowed every day but one since we ditched the cable box. Cruel.

In other news, Jordan and I have recently discovered that we are rightwing extremists. According to a new report from the Department of Homeland Security, "the Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines rightwing extremism in the United States as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority." Silly me, I thought that's what the Constitution said. The report also says these extremists "include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration." Silly me, I thought that's what my First Amendment right to free speech was for. Nevermind the groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue such as a woman's right to kill her unborn child or the health care, welfare and other rights given to illegal aliens in this country. It's us God-fearing rightwingers you have to watch out for. Seriously, sometimes all I can do is shake my head in disgust when I look at what's happening to this country.

That's probably enough of that for now, though! While my opinions on such topics will undoubtedly reveal themselves in the course of these posts, I sincerely do not mean to offend. I just hope that everyone everywhere has something that they believe in strongly enough to stand up and make their voice heard.

  1. I COMPLETELY understand about the homework thing. I love that you gave it a name! HAHAHAH! Yes, it's a bummer, but our husband's will have awesome educations, so that's a definitely bonus! We need to hang out again!
