Madison is obsessed with snow! She's always talking about wanting it to snow, playing in the snow, eating snow, you name it! Since we're not likely to see any actual accumulation anytime in the near future either here or in Arizona, I decided to theme our activities this month around snow. We've done snow letters (which you'll see below), snowball letters (using cotton balls to form letters), snowball races (various races with cotton balls), snow painting (painting with colored shaving cream in the bathtub), snowball painting (using cotton balls as the paint brush), snowball math (math with cotton balls), making snowflakes (using toothpicks and gumdrops) and snowmen door hangers (also pictured below). Since tomorrow is a holiday and Jordan is home with nothing to worry about in the morning, I decided to surprise Madison with a snow storm in her room. I had this idea very randomly about two weeks ago and told Jordan about it, but I don't think he really took me seriously. Now he just thinks I'm a little crazy, but I think it turned out cute and she'll love it!! It's the only "snow" she's likely to see for a long while!! Don't tell him, but I think this might be a fun tradition during the January doldrums if we continue to live in places where we can't get the real thing!

Snow letters (okay, cornstarch). I gave each girl their own pan to eliminate fighting. Madison was very happy to play in her snow. She wrote the alphabet, all our names and some random short words that we sounded out. McKinley, on the other hand, was not as easily entertained. She played for about two minutes, long enough to get completely covered in the stuff and then roamed around the house, turning everything white. I eventually confined her to the kitchen, which she was not thrilled with (thus the crying shot). But in the end, she had fun too!
Yep, that's my kid
She's cute :)
McKinley's door hanger (okay, I wrote her name)
But this one was all Madison!
The snowstorm!
That's 1200 cotton balls you're looking at. I was hoping for more of a complete ground cover, but that was all we could afford! I'll admit I thought 1200 would go a little bit further :)
Some pretty sweet snowflakes! Guess what we were doing during the football game tonight?! The super cool ones are all Jordan's. He told me he had never made snowflakes before, but his were all awesome!!! I'm so glad he indulges my crazy schemes :)
