GS Day 3 - The Hangout

While we cooked most of our meals at the house, we decided that we wanted to eat one meal out at a local restaurant to get a real sense of the taste and ambiance of the Gulf. How can you come to the Gulf and not get fresh seafood?! We decided to eat out on Monday for lunch, and after much debate, chose a place called The Hangout. I had actually heard of The Hangout before we went and knew it was a local hotspot and was famous for hosting an annual music festival in Gulf Shores called The Hangout Music Festival. Everyone told me to avoid going on vacation the week the Festival was happening (which was the week after we were there) because it's a huge event and makes everything crazy! Anyway, we went to the Hangout for lunch and had a great time! It's all open air and right on the beach so the atmosphere was great. They have a big sand area for kids, ping-pong and shuffleboard tables, random collections dotting the walls (one wall was all Pez dispensers, another was tin lunch boxes and another was rubber ducks) and what they call the Wish Wall, where you write a wish on a small piece of colored paper and slide it into tiny cardboard tubes in the wall, creating a pretty awesome mosiac. And the food was fantastic! I got fish tacos, and Jordan got a shrimp wrap and we shared :) Both were amazing! It was definitely a good restaurant choice!

My delicious fish tacos and "Christmas chips", as Madison called them

A good-looking group!

This sign was right outside the restaurant, and I know that I want to do a book about this trip so I insisted on a photo here for the cover :)

This was the entrance to a souvenir shop we went to. We have a tradition of getting Christmas ornaments everywhere we go (usually just keychains or magnets that I turn into ornaments - we're cheap) so we were looking for a souvenir shop while we were in town. When Madison saw this one, she said we had to go in the shark store.
