Funny story #1 was all my fault!! Since I'm the one who purchased the cruise, when it came time to head out, I was also the navigator. Except I got the wrong lake! We drove all the way to Saguaro Lake and were looking around in bewilderment trying to find the boat when I realized that we were supposed to be at Canyon Lake. Which was an hour and fifteen minutes away. There's no way we should've made it. But Jordan broke all the speed limits and I'm pretty sure my life flashed before my eyes several times as we careened through the canyon, but we made it!! We ran down the dock right as they were getting ready to cast off and everyone cheered because they had been waiting for us, which was pretty embarrassing, but I was SOOOOO grateful we made it!
However, this near miss led to funny story #2. The tables on the boat are first come first serve so I had us leave early enough that we would've been one of the first ones on and gotten a nice table for two outside on the upper deck. However, since we ended up being the last ones on, we got stuck at an inside table for four with a VERY outspoken liberal couple. There were several moments during dinner when I had to apply some pressure to Jordan's knee to keep him from saying something we'd all regret. Thankfully, after a delicious dinner, we found a nice little spot on the steps outside and spent most of our time there, enjoying the incredible scenery and night air. Every part of the cruise was absolutely breathtaking. Sunset over the mountains and lake was stunning, and we got several glimpses of mountain goats and other wildlife. Then once the sun set, the stars appeared and the moon rose and was just beautiful! It was a perfect night! We were both so sad when the cruise was over - we'd definitely go again!
I'm told this is called Weaver's Needle
Our late arrival prevented me from getting good pictures of the steamboat :( Next time!!
