Kitchen Refresh

When my Mom was here for Madison's baptism, we started talking about some home improvement projects I wanted to do and I mentioned painting the kitchen cabinets. There's so much orange wood in this house between the cabinets, floors, shutters and railings, and I kind of hate it! I told her it was going to cost around $2000 so we were saving up. She responded that I could easily paint them myself for a lot cheaper. That got me thinking and I started doing a ton of research on Pinterest. I stumbled on Annie Sloan chalk paint and after reading a million tutorials, we took the plunge and did it!!! I definitely would not have tackled this if my Grandma wasn't here for a few weeks and wanted to help! I've never painted anything in my life, but she's an expert!!

I was super nervous, but once we got started, I knew it was going to be awesome! I knew I wanted something lighter and brighter but I did NOT want white on the bottom. I was originally thinking white on top and gray on bottom but I stumbled on a picture with blue on the bottom and fell in love! Luckily Annie Sloan had a color that was pretty close to what I was envisioning so I didn't have to experiment with mixing paint. The process was a lot easier than I thought it would be. It took some late nights and a disaster area in my kitchen and dining room, but we got the whole thing done in about 10 days. Kudos to my Grandma for doing all the doors! I didn't trust myself to get into all those grooves so I stuck with doing the frames, which made more sense anyway since Grandma's not really allowed to climb on countertops :) Jordan helped when he could and became an expert waxer and Madison even painted several drawer fronts!! All the teachers went on strike for six days the day after we started so I unexpectedly had all my kids home during the process, which was a bit of a challenge haha! They were pretty bummed that they didn't get to spend the "break" doing fun stuff because Mom was busy painting but such is life!!

Overall, I think it turned out awesome and I'm so glad I did it!! Next up is some beautiful white quartz countertops and a tile backsplash to complete the look! Then we'll paint the walls a light gray, replace the hardwood with a grayish wood look tile, paint the banisters and shutters white ... ;)

Ahh!! Is this really happening?

Great Grandma teaching the tricks of the trade

McKinley was over it pretty quick but Madison loved it!

Still hard at work

A late night with the cabinet doors

The first area we finished. Jordan and I went and picked out some awesome drawer pulls! I was thinking silver but Jordan loved these black ones, and if you know Jordan at all, it's not often he has opinions about such things so I always try to run with it when he does. The black really does look AWESOME!!

Disaster

Halfway done!!

I started getting REALLY excited once I saw the white go on!!

I'm in love!!!
