Ice-Ageddon

We got a pleasant surprise around 5 am Friday morning - a text message from SCO saying school had been canceled due to an anticipated ice storm! We were so excited to have Jordan home for the day and to have some winter weather. Of course, you have to remember, this is Southern style. So basically, the temperature dipped below 32 degrees and some ice accumulated on the trees, which brought everything grinding to a complete halt! Stores were cleaned out of generators and snow shovels Thursday night. There was a run on bottled water. Everyone was preparing for the end of the world. Except those of us who have actually experienced winter. We just sat back and laughed :)

We stayed home all day Friday because they kept telling us the roads were going to freeze. Never happened. It was fun for the most part, but we were all getting a little antsy by the end of the day. It's very rare that we don't get out of the house during the day! Saturday was still frozen, but we ventured out for a trip to the grocery store and Sam's Club. We were planning to go to the city's Christmas parade Saturday night but it was postponed so instead we joined some friends for dinner at Gus's Chicken! Then another text message came around 4 am Sunday morning saying church had been canceled, meaning another day inside. This time I was a little more prepared! We had a yummy breakfast of star pancakes and fruit and then watched some church movies and sang songs at the piano. I'm pleased to say that we spent the entire three hours we would've been at church doing church-related activities. Go us :) Then the football games started! Ha ha! We had a relaxing afternoon followed by the First Presidency Christmas Devotional in the evening. As soon as Madison saw the prophet, she wanted her General Conference treat bags so we whipped up some brownies instead with frosting and Christmas M&Ms on top for a treat! The devotional was awesome, and I was very happy that Madison watched the whole thing until she fell asleep during the closing song, which was Silent Night. Right before she closed her eyes for good, she asked me why they were singing so softly :) Cute girl.

We didn't get any snow, but it was pretty awesome how everything froze! I actually think it was more beautiful than when things are covered in snow. Each tiny little leaf on every tree was individually frozen. My favorite were the trees that have little berries on them. They looked so awesome frozen. The big tree in our front yard froze, and at night, with the street lamp behind it, it seriously looked like it was made out of crystal. Beautiful!! Shockingly, as Jordan and I were looking out the window Sunday afternoon, we both turned to each other and commented that we miss the snow. This isn't a surprise for Jordan but was a huge step for me! I was so ready to be out of the snow after spending all my time in Utah and northern Idaho, but I've finally reached the point where I miss it! Too bad we're moving to Phoenix next year :)

Here's some pictures of our icy adventure!

Two cute girls waiting and watching for snow!

I tried to get good pictures of everything frozen, but I didn't succeed. However, my friend Lauren got some awesome ones so these next four are stolen from her :)

I love how it looks like the trees and ground are covered in snow, but it's really just ice. Beautiful!

 Back to us ...
Sunday morning breakfast! We normally never have time to eat a nice breakfast on Sundays since we have 9 am church so this was a fun treat! Fruit candy canes and star pancakes

Madison had left her box of sidewalk chalk on the back patio, and it filled with water and froze. So I brought it in for the girls to play with and so we could learn a little about water and ice, a mini science lesson! Jordan thought I was kind of crazy, but we actually do stuff like this all the time - he's just normally not home to see it!

Such a cheeser! Whenever she sees the camera, she just starts yelling "cheese" over and over until I take her picture!

Madison found herself a nice perch to watch the Devotional!

  1. The pictures were cool seeing the ice and the girls looking out the window. What a cozy weekend...be careful with that ice!
