Mystery Reader

Madison's class does a thing called Mystery Reader where a mystery guest comes into class and reads to the kids each Friday. It's a very big deal to have your parent, grandparent, etc. be the mystery reader, and Madison has been asking me for months when I was going to come in! But it's tough to figure out things like that with two other kids! However, I was able to work it out to come last Friday. I actually got permission from Madison's teacher to bring McKinley with me so just Reagan went to my friend Jill's house. It's supposed to be a big secret so I didn't tell McKinley we were going until a little bit before and she was SOOOO excited! She loves getting to go to Madison's school.

When we got there, Mrs. Barnes came out and asked me for a couple clues that would help Madison get that it was me. She asked how many kids I had and what I liked to do and then asked me for something that would make Madison get it immediately. I told her to say that I like to say pucky dust! She kind of have me a strange look, but sure enough, Madison knew right away! She was so excited when we came into class!! Mrs. Barnes had Madison introduce us to the class and then all three of us got to sit in front of the class while I read the books I brought. Madison's favorite book right now is There's a Monster at the End of This Book so I went with a monster theme and read that one along with There Are Monsters Everywhere and Boogie Monster. The kids LOVED all three books, especially Boogie Monster of course. It was so fun to be in there with them!

After I read the stories, Madison got to pass out the treats I brought, monster cookies. I had asked her previously what kind of snacks people bring and she said that sometimes people bring whatever they want but she likes it best when they bring treats that go along with the book. So I went to Pinterest (of course) and found a cute idea for monster cookies, basically just multi-colored sugar cookies with candy eyeballs in them. I made them the night before after the girls went to bed and then bagged them up to take to class. They were a big hit! It was so cute when Mrs. Barnes told Madison to pick someone to help her pass the cookies out, everyone's hands shot up and several of the kids shouted that they would be her best friend if she picked them :)

After passing out the treat, it was time for lunch so McKinley and I went to eat with the class. Madison held McKinley's hand as they walked to lunch, and of course, all the kids wanted to sit next to us! We had fun eating with her friends. She has lots of great girls in her class (at this age, the girls and boys stay pretty separate, which is fine with me!) Then we stayed for recess and Madison took McKinley onto the playground with her to do her favorite thing - dig in the sand! It was a fun day!! I'm so glad I get to do things like this every once in a while, and I'm SOOOOOOOOO grateful for Madison's awesome school and teacher. Kindergarten has been so wonderful for her this year! And McKinley can't wait to be in Mrs. Barnes class!
