We started the day with presents, which were just sitting on the couch for each girl to find when she woke up. The big girls each got a robot made out of candy and a balloon while Reagan got some more puffs, which she loves. All three girls also each got a new dress (well, Reagan's is "new to her" :) ) and a book, all three of which I found at the library's little bookstore for $1.50 total! I love me a good deal :) Jordan and I didn't do presents for each other on Valentine's Day because we knew what was coming and ended up getting each other a BIG present later in the week, but that will have to wait for the next blog post :) Madison also spent a lot of time both at school and at home making each of us Valentines that she gave to us that morning, which was so cute and so like her!!
We made homemade donuts for breakfast topped with frosting and sprinkles, cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar, which were a big hit!! Then all the girls dressed in their new duds and we headed to church. Unfortunately, McKinley got sick during Primary and had to be taken home. I had to teach my Primary class during the third hour so Jordan took her home and then I raced home right after church to switch with him so he could go back and do his finance stuff. Then he raced home so that I could leave for my Young Women planning meeting (I was actually released from Primary and called to be the Miamaid advisor that morning!!) and then go straight to choir practice. We finally saw each other for more than five minutes around 5 pm :) Our Sundays are definitely crazy but I'm grateful that we can serve in the church and hopefully be good examples to our kids!
I had planned to do heart-shaped pizza and a heart cake for the kids for dinner and dessert but with McKinley being so sick it just didn't happen. So instead we told them that in honor of love day, they could pick out anything they loved to eat for dinner. Of course, they both chose cereal, which we knew they would! They thought it was pretty awesome that they got to eat cereal for dinner and it was obviously a lot better for me to not have to be in the kitchen as much! Jordan and I have a tradition of making a nice dinner at home for Valentines Day (or weekend) instead of going out to dinner - we went out on our first VDay together and it was just insanely crowded everywhere. So ever since then we just plan a nice meal and then wait until the kids go to bed to make it and eat it together!! Usually we do steak since that's a very rare treat for us, but we've been trying to eat healthier so this year we did salmon!! Jordan grilled the salmon and some marinated asparagus while I made roasted sweet potatoes. It was SOOOOO delicious!!! We've had the asparagus many times before and we both like salmon, but I was surprised at how good the sweet potatoes were!! Then we had homemade blueberry cheesecake ice cream (Jordan's favorite) for dessert! You can't get that in a restaurant :)
I'm so grateful for my four Valentines and how much love and joy they bring into my life!
Presents for my three little Valentines
For Reagan
For McKinley
For Madison
Both girls LOVED these cute robots! And it was a good way to give them a little treat without totally overdoing it. What did we all do before Pinterest?!?
Jordan's Aunt Marilyn dropped these off Saturday night. They rang our doorbell and then ran to hide so it took my girls a little while to figure out what was going on. Marilyn actually had to yell for them to come outside and try to find them!! They're always doing cute stuff like that for their family and I'm so grateful that they include us!
We also hosted a Valentines Day cookie party on Saturday, which I didn't take a single picture of :( We had Mayli and Ryker over along with Lucy, Clara and Ivy. I at least snapped this shot of Madison and McKinley's cookies after that fact
McKinley's perfect donut
Mom's perfect donut :)
Can it get any cuter than this?!?!
